It is that time of year, the Holiday season is once again in full swing upon us-are you mentally prepared for this time? Between the shopping, wrapping, cookie baking and holiday parties to be attended, from Thanksgiving until New Years can be a very hectic time in our lives. Our schedules are already busy and jam-packed, and during this time the problem is compounded even worse.
Being pulled in a million directions, trying to find the perfect gift, and stressing about fitting in our clothes after eating all of those holiday cookies can really do a number on the mind. Our thoughts get so wrapped up in everything that we are stressed about, that we forget to slow down and
enjoy the season around us.
The season is for Love, Peace, Joy and Family- not stress, tears, and anxiety attacks. Yet, it is really easy to full into the latter category if we do not take time for ourselves. If you are already looking forward to the end of the Holiday season, you are in need of time for yourself. With everything to be done we can write time off for ourselves as selfish, when really, taking time for you, will allow you to be more present with everyone else.
I encourage taking at least 5 minutes in the morning and 5 minutes at night to close your eyes and focus on your breathing and the quality of your breath. Focus on positive mantras such as “I am open to receive the gifts of the season” or “Being present is the best gift to give”. Inhale and exhale through the nose, taking long, deep, breaths with each exhale slightly longer than the inhale. You can also take a few minutes in your car to do this before you go in and deal with the hustle and bustle of shopping centers.
Sharing the gift of relaxation is one of my biggest passions, especially this time of year. Through the New Year, remember to slow down, practice gratitude, and truly be present for your friends, family and colleagues. If I can be of any help to you this holiday season, please do not hesitate to ask. Massage and Meditation are great ways to keep yourself present and in the moment, so you can really experience the magic of the season!
